This is the process where fresh air is injected into the exhaust stream to allow fuller combustion of exhaust gasses. This system uses a reed valve assembly that is sensitive called the aspirator valve which is located in the air injection pump. Injection thrust draws air directly from the clean side of the air filter. During the process of engine idle, periodic but brief negative pressure pulses in the exhaust system. The air is strained through the aspirator valve and into the exhaust stream at the catalytic converter. The aspirator air injection system is essential in the sense that is cheap, less in weight, in excellent packaging and more straightforward compared to the pump air injection system.
